The Ciderhouse Rebellion

Every performance by The Ciderhouse Rebellion is improvised and therefore uniquely magical, whether springing from a single unplanned note or a trad tune. The duo is “Paganini of the traditional violin.” fRoots, fiddle player Adam Summerhayes and master accordionist Murray Grainger.

They discovered their rare and magical connection instantly the first time they performed on stage together: “We were immediately able to play as if it was our 1000th gig, not our first”, says Murray. Since forming in November 2019 the prolific duo has recorded four albums. With their latest projects – ‘Genius Loci’ and ‘Ironstone Tales’ – they have sought out the ’spirit of place’ of a location and allowed the music to flow directly from the landscape as well as themselves.

The Wilderness Yet

Taking their name from a line in Gerard Manley Hopkins’s evocative poem, Inversnaid, this Sheffield-based trio fuse the clear, charismatic vocals of former BBC Young Folk Award finalist Rosie Hodgson with the fine, sensitive fiddling of Rowan Piggott and the deft guitar and flute playing of Philippe Barnes.

They are a trio with an excellent pedigree – and one with intrinsic links to the Irish traditional music scene. Rosie and Philippe have worked together in the London-Irish band Crossharbour, while Rowan grew up on the west coast of Ireland, surrounded by traditional music (including his Dad’s band De Danann!) They’ve toured together playing festivals from Sidmouth to Warwick, Ely to Bromyard (Rowan is a past winner of Bromyard’s ‘Future of Young Folk’ Award).

Independently, they have earned audiences’ esteem as consummate musicians; together, they weave an eclectic tapestry of traditional and original songs and tunes; from a cappella three-part harmonies to luscious instrumental arrangements.

SautiKano

A musical fusion with a core of experienced performers from across the world comprising: Ivan Toolit – lead vocals (Uganda), Njega Sohna- African drums (The Gambia), Seikou Sussou – Master Kora Player (The Gambia), Ben Somers – Double Bass (UK) Liz Lenten – guitar and harmonies (UK).

Ivan was a young boy in a war-torn Uganda. The war eventually reached his town, resulting in his parents being killed when he was just 4 years, leaving Ivan to survive on the streets, on his own. SautiKano tells his story – through song, music and dance, describing the fears, loss, struggles, ingenuity, hopes, dreams and his travels half way around the planet in search of love, security and opportunity.

This is a tale of displacement, resilience, survival, tragedy and the healing power of music…
