Northering is the symbiotic partnership between Maisie May and Anna Hughes.
They deftly weave strings, drones and electronics together with close-knit vocal interplay, creating a newly imagined sound that transcends genre.
Whether it be with traditional or original song, Northering play with contrast and context, tenderness and darkness, delving deep into sensitive, restrained arrangements which reflect the honesty of human experience and emotion.
Words from a collection of poems by Robert Service, found and put to music by Maisie. We loved working together on this song. Process and slow evolution are one of our favorite things to do together and we are grateful to still be able to play together at the moment.
This piece is about things crumbling, dissapating and falling apart and feels all too relevant right now. We have a lot to greive but a lot to be thankful for as well. Please stay at home for those who can’t protect themselves, and stay safe and well.
