ALOSA
19/03/26, 4PM @ HALLé ST PETER'S
Part of the Catalan Arts International Showcase.
The duo ALOSA, formed by Giulietta Vidal (voice and percussion) and Irene Romo (voice, cello and percussion), presents this autumn their first album, El primer cant del matí (The First Song of the Morning). The record, featuring nine songs that confirm their unique sonic universe and their talent as creators, represents a step forward in the trajectory of one of the most promising projects on the Catalan scene.
El primer cant del matí arrives after the excellent reception of the singles “El forner”, “Nenes de ciutat” and the recently released “Flors i violes”, which have sparked interest among both audience and critics. The production was a three-way collaboration between ALOSA and Arnau Figueres, while recording, mixing and mastering were entirely carried out by Figueres.
The album combines original compositions with adaptations of traditional songs such as “La dama d’Aragó”, “El cant dels ocells” and “Marieta cistellera”. Among the most remarkable moments are “Las alamedas”, a collaboration with the duo Tarta Relena based on a text by Federico García Lorca that explores new vocal textures, and the stunning “El riu”, which begins with verses by ALOSA and culminates with the poem “L’ametller” by Joan Maragall, turning the piece into a poetic ode to nature and life.
With traditional roots yet open to new sounds, Irene Romo and Giulietta Vidal have consolidated a sincere, energetic and personal proposal within the Catalan folk imagination. Their vibrant and sensitive live performances fill venues and festivals with the power of harmonic voices, the cello and small traditional percussion instruments, transforming each concert into an intimate and festive experience.
Soon, ALOSA will present El primer cant del matí in a quartet format, maintaining the essence of the duo while expanding their sound with new colours and nuances. On stage, they are joined by Martí Escobedo on guitar and Xavi Veres on bass, giving body and depth to a sound that remains faithful to its roots.
